President Trump took to Twitter on Thursday to declare that the United States’ relationship with Russia is at an “all-time & very dangerous low.” “You can thank Congress,” he added, who he described as the “same people who can’t even give us Hcare.”
Trump reluctantly signed what he called a “seriously flawed” package of sanctions against Russia on Wednesday, asking both parties to his push for warmer ties with Moscow. “As president, I can make far better deals with foreign countries than Congress,” he said.
The legislation is designed to penalize Moscow for election interference and for its military aggression in Ukraine and Syria.
“The bill remains seriously flawed — particularly because it encroaches on the executive branch’s authority to negotiate,” Trump said as he signed the bill.
In his early morning Thursday Twitter session, the president also touted the stock market and job growth: “Business is looking better than ever with business enthusiasm at record levels. Stock Market at an all-time high. That doesn’t just happen!”
Trump said he is “continuing to get rid of costly and unnecessary regulations,” but added that there is still a lot of work to do.
