Sony Animation Picks Up ‘Muncle Trogg’

British children’s book is first acquisition by Michelle Raimo-Kouyate as president of production for the studio’s animation arm

Sony Pictures Animation has picked up the movie rights to Janet Foxley’s children’s book “Muncle Trogg” in Michelle Raimo-Kouyate first acquisition as president of production.

The British book, about a giant teased for being human size, will be published in the U.S. by Scholastic next spring.

“Strong characters, relatable themes, a unique world and tons of inherent comedy: as soon as I read ‘Muncle Trogg,’ I knew this would speak to the kinds of animated movies I want to make at Sony Pictures Animation,” said  Raimo-Kouyate.

Jane Startz, producer for “Ella Enchanted” and “Tuck Everlasting,” will exec produce the project. Kane Lee, Jane Startz Productions’s vice president of development, will serve as co-producer.
