Party Report: Author Jay-Z Takes His Writing Skills to South Beach, Knoxville and “Hollywood Dads” Cap a Lucrative Week

The rapper’s memoir is found at the bottom of a Miami pool, while Audrina and Brandy dance in an L.A. club

Jay-Z partnered with Bing to launch an international scavenger hunt for loose pages from his upcoming memoir “Decoded.”  Fans can unscramble them using Microsoft’s “decision engine.” The rap mogul hid one page at the bottom of the pool at the Delano hotel in Miami Beach for a soiree that included wife Beyonce Knowles and Venus Williams on Wednesday night.

Bing continues to aggressively partner with celebrity driven events, including multiple outings with the similarly named Jason Binn’s Niche Media magazines and even branding the virally distributed “Sundance Party List” this past January. On Wednesday, the sponsor benefitted from a timely gossip eruption surrounding Knowles’ possible pregnancy.

The night before, video publisher Ubisoft strategically slotted their launch party for “Just Dance 2” to whisk three “Dancing With the Star-ettes” direct from the studio to their event at Las Palmas. At right, Karina Smirnoff, Audrina Patridge and Brandy channel their ABC predecessors, Charlie’s Angels.

In addition to appearing at last weekend’s Scream Awards, Christopher Nolan presented a Distinguished Cinematography Award to his perennial DP Wally Pfister (“Inception,” “The Dark Knight,” “Memento”) at Loyola Marymount University’s School of Film and Television Film Outside the Frame Festival in Hollywood. Jay and Mark Duplass (“Cyrus,” “Humpday”) also took home hardware from the annual event that shares the spotlight with LMU’s top student productions.

After racking up surprisingly huge numbers at the box office, Johnny Knoxville capped last weekend by hanging with Tony Hawk and Perry Farrell of Jane’s Addiction at the pro skater’s “Stand Up for Skateparks” fundraiser at Ron Burkle’s house on Sunday afternoon. David Beckham, Mark Wahlberg, and Patrick Dempsey all braved the grey drizzle so their kids could check out oversized backyard skate ramps and a creative use of a moon-bounce: T-Mobile’s giant pink My Touch Slide, a pun on the name of their popular phone.

Elsewhere this week, PR firms BWR and EMC |Bowery competed head-to-head in a fundraising challenge at the W Los Angeles (Westwood), stepping behind the bar on Tuesday night to sling drinks with tips benefitting the Trevor Project, Lupus LA, and The Sharon Osbourne Colon Cancer Foundation.
