Izzy Povich has been named vice president of talent and development at MSNBC, according to a memo that network president Phil Griffin sent to staffers Tuesday. It is a new position at the channel.
Griffin called Povich one of his "trusted advisors" and said her new role would be "instrumental to the evolution of MSNBC programming."
Povich, currently the senior executive producer at "The Last Word with Lawrence O'Donnell," has been with the network since nearly its beginning. Before she moved to "Last Word," she was the EP of Keith Olbermann's ill-fated "Countdown."

I'm happy to announce that Izzy Povich has been promoted to Vice President of Talent and Development for MSNBC. In this new role, Izzy will lead talent development and recruitment for all platforms of MSNBC. She will also work with Deb, Yvette and me on editorial strategy and special projects across the network. As MSNBC grows, Izzy will be instrumental to the evolution of MSNBC programming.
Izzy brings significant experience and strong relationships both internally and externally to this new position. She’s has been with MSNBC since 1996, just four months after the network debuted. Part of what makes MSNBC so unique is our core group of "originals" who've been here since the beginning. Izzy knows who we are and where we are going. She's a trusted advisor to me and has been crucial to the success of our top shows over the past decade. Izzy’s leadership and creativity will be key as MSNBC continues to expand, both on-air and online. I’m grateful for the significant contributions Izzy has already made to MSNBC and I’m thrilled to have her in this enhanced role.
