John Woo’s ‘Flying Tigers’ Goes IMAX

World War Two film is a Hollywood-China co-production and will start filming next year

John Woo will digitally remaster his next project, the World War Two action film “Flying Tigers,” so it can be screened on IMAX, the company announced on Monday.

Produced by longtime collarborater Terence Chang, “Flying Tigers” centers on  the Fourteenth Air Force, which consisted of American and Chinese pilots who flew missions against Japan throughout the war.

It will be a Hollywood-China joint production with China Film Group as the lead financier. Shooting is expected to begin in spring 2011.

For IMAX, the announcement fits in with the company's larger efforts to increase its presence in China. The company has been expanding rapidly in the region this year, and plans to have 57 theaters up and running in China by 2012.

Woo and Chang previously collaborated on “Mission Impossible II," “Face/Off," and “Red Cliff.”
