The domestic violence incident that took place Monday morning at the Huntington Beach home of UFC champ Tito Ortiz and former porn superstar Jenna Jameson became a media war late Monday.
Both Ortiz and Jameson went public with very different perspectives on what happened earlier in the day, with two very different sets of accusations on why the UFC champ was arrested.
First at a press conference in North Hollywood, lawyer Chip Matthews claimed his client Ortiz "never laid a hand" on Jameson. Matthews also claimed that Jameson has been in and out of rehab the past year and had a "relapse" in her addiction to the powerful prescription painkiller Oxycontin. The lawyer said that incident at the couple's home was Ortiz trying to intervene in Jameson's drug addiction.
Ortiz compared the situation to his parents' drug abuse.
A bit later, Jameson started telling the media her side of the story.
The actress, seen with her arm in a sling, told, TV station KCAL that Ortiz — whom she called the "sweetest" man she's ever met — "didn't beat me" but that the couple had "an argument and it escalated and things got out of control and the cops were called."
She also told KCAL's Serene Branson that, even though she has a restraining order against Ortiz, Jameson hopes "it works out" with her boyfriend of six years.
Stressing that the couple would seek counseling, Jameson cited the violent incident between R&B star Rihanna and boyfriend Chris Brown in February 2009 as part of her decision to have her father call the police.
"After seeing what happened to Rihanna," the former porn star said, "I knew I had to call the police."
However, a few additional hours after that interview, TMZ reported that Jameson, on her way to Las Vegas, told the site that Ortiz's press conference was "the last nail in the coffin."
Leaving the couples’ twin baby boys with her father, the actress countered the former UFC champ's allegations as being "very, very desperate."
She also said Ortiz "threw me into the bathtub and tore two ligaments in my shoulder" after she said "something very hurtful to his ego."
Jameson, who previous had written on Twitter that she was quitting the microblogging site, wrote around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday morning that she was "surprised so many of you believe Tito’s allegations … imgoingtofocus onhappiness. Goodbye xxxxxx."
As TheWrap reported on Monday, police arrived at the couple's home after receiving a 911 call, and Ortiz was arrested and removed from the house by officers.
"He was arrested at 9:53 a.m. for domestic violence after officers were called to the residence, police spokesman Lt. Russell Reinhart told TheWrap. "Mr. Ortiz was brought to the station and booked. He posted bail of $25,000 about 4:20 p.m. and has been released."
The case now falls to the Orange County district attorney's office.
UFC spokeswoman Jennifer Wenk said in a statement, "We're all aware of it, and any comment would be best handled by the authorities."
