Is James Cameron a fan of the Black Eyed Peas?
Apparently so, as Peas frontman will.i.am has told VIBE that the Oscar-winning filmmaker will direct an untitled 3D concert film for the group that is currently scheduled for release early next year.
TheWrap's calls to Cameron's representation at CAA and his production company, Lightstorm Entertainment, were not immediately returned on Friday.
"Right now we are planning our 3D tour movie and James Cameron is directing it," will.i.am told VIBE. "We have the biggest director because we are the biggest group on the planet. The Peas are filming it in South America. There will be a storyline that [Cameron] came up with, which will be dope. It's a full-length film and it's based around our tour activities."
Nothing against the Black Eyed Peas or will.i.am, but I'm skeptical that Cameron would choose to follow up "Avatar," the highest-grossing movie of all-time, with a concert film about a less-than-iconic hip-hop group. Martin Scorsese and The Rolling Stones, sure. Jonathan Demme and Neil Young, why not? But Cameron and the Black Eyed Peas? I don't think so. So good luck with that, will.i.am.
That said, Cameron does have experience working with musicians, having directed a (rather hilarious) music video for Bill Paxton's band Martini Ranch in 1988 that starred his future ex-wife Kathryn Bigelow as a sexy gunslinger.
The Black Eyed Peas' latest album, The E.N.D., is still hanging around near the top of the charts.
Fergie should really consider adding Cameron to the Peas. Look at the authority with which the self-proclaimed King of the World holds that microphone!
