For any “Fantastic Four” fans hoping that reports of the movie rights reverting to Marvel were true, TheWrap has bad news: A studio spokesman confirmed on Thursday that it’s merely “an Internet rumor and completely untrue.”
But just because the studio torched the rumors spawned by blogs doesn’t mean they’ve successfully fanned the flames spreading across social media.
Some fans of big-budget superhero blockbusters remain hopeful that Marvel really did hand over the “X-Men” TV rights in exchange for “Fantastic Four” movie rights — a theory unleashed into the blogosphere by Den of Geek — while others see little hope of ever seeing a “good” Hollywood adaptation of the Marvel comic book, especially after Fox’s latest reboot didn’t come anywhere close to reaching blockbuster status.
Take a look at the social media buzz swirling around rumors — and the truth — below.

The year is 2050, Fantastic Four is being rebooted for the 37th time. Every film has been awful. The sight of The Thing makes children cry.

RE Fantastic Four. I love you Marvel but NO. It’s just going to drag out into an unceremonious death, leave it to the comics

Fox should just give up Fantastic Four’s license. Their last FF4 movie stunk worse than a roadkill skunk to put it mildly.

Does the world really need another Fantastic Four movie? Have any of them actually been good enough to warrant a justified sequel?
— The Long Halloween (@Batman_Infinite) October 15, 2015
Fox, please just give the Fantastic Four rights back to Marvel. All the FF movies you guys made were shit.
