Chelsea Handler said she was high in the sky off marijuana during a hangout with former President George W. Bush and was shocked to learn that he’s a “nice guy.”
“I was as high as a kite, and then that’s when I met the president,” Handler told Jesse Tyler Ferguson during an appearance on his “Dinner’s On Me” podcast.
At the time, Handler’s siblings suggested that they play pickleball at the Bush Compound, which is also named Walker’s Point Estate and is located in Kennebunkport, Maine. When Handler said the idea made her nervous, her sisters and brother suggested she take some drugs to take the edge off.
“My sisters and my brother were both like, ‘Just take some drugs.’ Like, you know, that usually calms me down. I always take edibles. I love drugs,” Handler continued. “My brother’s like, ‘Take one.’ My sister’s like, ‘Take four’ and we ended up going there.”
She went on to share that Bush was excited to speak with her because he wanted to let her know he’s a decent guy. By the end of it, she was apparently convinced.
“He wanted to meet me and talk to me and make sure that I knew he was a nice guy — and guess what? By the time I left there, I did think he was a nice guy,” Handler said. “He showed me his art collection, his painting collection, his personal painting collection. Which was ridiculous. I told him I was stoned because I refused to take my sunglasses off because my eyes were shut. And it was actually quite a lovely afternoon, and his wife, Laura, was there. And then they gave us a tour of their newly renovated house. It was like, we couldn’t get out of there.”
Handler wouldn’t be the only person who’s pointed out Bush’s laid back, easygoing personality. Bush got some love from fans back in January after he greeted fellow former President Barack Obama with a friendly belly tap during late President Jimmy Carter’s funeral. Check out the moment below.
