ABC’s Struggling ‘The Gates’ a Hit Online

New summer drama is having trouble finding viewers on TV, but it was the top network show online

ABC's new summer scripted drama series "The Gates" may be struggling for viewers on TV, but it had more unique online viewers — 814,000 — than any other broadcast network show last month.
In June, it averaged just 4 million TV viewers, ranking it 55th among all broadcast shows. But it beat out broadcast hits like Fox's "Glee" and its own network's "The Bachelorette" and "Wipeout" for unique visitors on the web
In total streams for the month, it fell down a bit, ranking sixth, behind shows like "The Bachelorette" and "Glee" — but still ahead of hits NBC's "America's Got Talent" and ABC's "Lost," among others.
As for network sites, ABC.com was the number 1 for the month in unique viewers with 3.4 million, followed by CBS.com with 2.4 million, NBC.com with 1.9 million, Fox.com with 1.8 million and CWTV.com with 229,000.
ABC had the top three shows among unique viewers with "The Gates" first (814,000), "The Bachelorette" second with 797,000 and ABC daytime soap opera "General Hospital" third with 646,000. Fox's "Glee" was next with 483,000 unique viewers, followed by CBS' "The Late Show With David Letterman" with 442,000.
Another ABC summer program, reality show "True Beauty" — which also has been struggling to find viewers, was seventh among all shows in unique visitors, with 418,000.
In the total streams category "The Bachelorette" was tops with 14.4 million, followed by CBS' daytime soap "The Young and the Restless" with 12.9 million streams. "Glee" was next with 10.4 million, followed by "General Hospital" with 7 million and NBC's daytime soap "Days of Our Lives" with 5 million. The "Gates was sixth with 4.6 million streams for the month.
